Tri-State Area Oral Surgical Treatments

Some dental issues can be very complex, and in some cases, may require a skilled and experienced oral surgeon. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues.

Oral Surgery Procedures

At ProHEALTH Dental, we work closely with our patients by walking them through the step-by-step procedures and answering any questions or concerns about post and pre-surgery. Sometimes, a tooth can be so badly damaged or decayed and may not be able to be restored with a predictable long-term prognosis and it must be removed. Depending on your situation, we will determine if a local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia is necessary and collaboratively determine the best course of action for treatment.

Extracting Impacted/Wisdom Teeth

Tooth extractions are a viable option when your teeth are so damaged beyond reasonable repair or you have a malpositioned or crowded mouth, infection, or a risk of infection. A tooth is considered “impacted” or entrapped when the ingrown tooth fails to emerge in the proper alignment which causes the tooth to be impacted between the jawbone and the gum tissue.

If treatment is delayed, permanent damage may result in the formation of painful cysts or tumors. For this reason, our dentists may recommend that patients with impacted teeth remove them surgically as soon as possible.

Common warning signs of an impacted tooth include:

  • Severe pain
  • Reoccurring swelling and tenderness
  • Bleeding gums

Temporomandibular Disorders (TMJ/TMD)

Abnormal activity like grinding, clenching or traumatic face injury can cause jaw pain and soreness, leading to the complex dental condition called Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD).
